HMMMMMM what shall we do?

We are seeking solitude, quiet, rest and reflection!!! Do you believe that?

                                            WRONG!

We are four darling girls, Auntie/Sister Beth, Grandmother/Sister Genie, Niece/Daughter Cory and precious Gracyn who is great niece/ grandaughter/daughter........exhausting isn't it.

From now on we shall be known as the FOUR DARLIN'S
                                              with four names;
                                  Beth, Genie, Cory and Gracyn

but we wanted you to know the indepth relationship between all of us! It will help make the story more interesting as it develops.

So what are we going to do? We are taking time off from the holiday season and all the festivities to have some personal quality time amongst most of the women of our family. We are only missing our daughter-in-law, Karin who is off to visit her family in Brazil with her daughter, Dora.

Cory suggested the entire family take a cruise instead of suffering the holidays .......... everyone jumped on the idea, that is except the boys, Clif, who decided to buy a boat, Andy, to send his wife to Brazil, and Dad who wanted to stay home and rest. So the women were left! Yippie!

The closest and easiest place to go from Texas is to Galveston and take a cruise out of there. No flying, just a short drive....

We chose a five day Western Caribbean Cruise on CARNIVAL. We shall see....It will be leaving December 31 so we will spend New Year's Eve, our first night, out on the sea. Sounds fun and thrilling.

Now Galveston is a great town.Cory has a precious "bay" house very near here so she knows all the ins and outs of Galveston. We look forward to enjoying a few days exploring....

Galveston is full of exciting history, including one of the greatest hurricane spots ever. Our great great grandmother, Mary E. McMenomy moved to Galveston in 1885 with our great great grandfather, Eugene Bartholomew. She was buried here, however, when the hurricane of 1900 came, she washed away along with the entire cemetery.

                                          The Great Storm

The Hurricane of 1900 made landfall on September 8, 1900 in the city of Galveston, Texas, in the United States. It had estimated winds of 145 miles per hour (233 km/h) at landfall, making  it a Category 4 storm. It was the deadliest hurricane in US history, and the second costliest hurricane in US history based on the US dollar's 2005 value (to compare costs with those of Hurricane Katrina and others).
The hurricane caused great loss of life with the estimated death toll between 6,000 and 12,000 individuals, giving the storm the third-highest number of deaths or injuries of any Atlantic hurricane. The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 is the deadliest natural disaster ever to strike the United States.  It is often referred to by Galveston locals as The Great Storm.

December 29, 2012

We are doing the final touches of preparing for heading off to Houston and then on to Galveston on the 31st. As you can see, Genie and I have many “must have” clothing options for our 5 days. The weather is predicted to be blustery with potential thunderstorms for our departure and New Year’s Celebration!!!

The very brave Cory and Gracyn took to the sting ray pool and had such fun that they lost their minds and started kissing the sting rays!!!

We all had such a fun day, we could have stayed longer and had more fun, done great damage with the shopping and eating!!
